The story of The Age of Being Real
The Age of Being Real features stories about people of all ages who have discovered their unique path in life. They sometimes resist social and financial pressures from well-intentioned friends and family who encourage more “reasonable” choices. Some discover their passion as children and follow it through the years to get the skills and experience they need to live their dream. Some find their individual journey after training or jobs that just don’t work out and they search for a path that fulfills the desires of the mind and heart.
Inspiration for The Age of Being Real comes from the 1922 children’s classic The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. The book is about a nursery toy that becomes a “real” rabbit, learning that despite being worn and shabby, one who is truly loved “cannot be ugly, except to those who don’t understand.”
